Walk. Don’t run. Be quiet. Don’t speak. Doesn’t matter what you think, just accede.
If he runs and he speaks and he dares to disagree, take the ruler, take the rod and make him see
If he walks and he whispers and he lives in fear and whimpers, keep on giving reinforcement; let him be.
Stand up straight. Don’t talk back. Heed your elders. Stay on track.
For as long as life has been he has lived it shunning sin
Kept the oldest of the rules since all began
Be a Christian, say your prayers. God is watching everywhere. Know that you cannot be holy, but don’t fear
In this world of deadly sin, you must shine the light within, know that you will never ever be like them.
Disrespectful, they will die, they are filled with Satan’s lies, the corruption of this world we must lament.
And as the years go by, keep this knowledge in your mind
Know that you are called to Something, know that you are called to find
Life and peace and grace and mercy, goodness better than mankind’s
From the font of lasting life, from the Savior, from the Christ
Do these things and life eternal shall be yours
Yet the question that remains, as ten years becomes a score
And the ruler and the rod can be threats to me no more
Yes, I follow all these laws
And I know of evil’s cause
And I know that God is grace and joy divine
But must we be so moralistic
Must our love be chauvinistic?
Is this truly within Heaven's grand design?
In my heart
In my soul
I know not what He has told
But I know that above all
Above all rules
Above all laws
We’re no different
We’re no better
Must we judge?
At the end of all these things, when I stand before the King, He will ask with arm outstretched as he gazes on this wretch
Were you love?
Were you love?
Were you love?
